What We Do

At NRS we assist our clients in developing and maintaining a wide range of radiological safety and environmental health and safety programs to ensure employee safety, corporate compliance with regulatory and license requirements.  Consulting activities for various customers include the following broad areas.

Radioactive Materials Operations (And X-Ray?)
  • Preparing radioactive materials license applications, renewals and license termination submissions

  • Acting as an Authorized User and contract Radiation Safety Officer on laboratory radioactive materials licenses

  • Providing dosimetry services through established NVLAP laboratories

  • Periodic radiation surveys, contamination monitoring, and leak testing

  • Portable radiation survey instrument calibration

  • Providing radioactive materials transportation and shipping assistance

  • Extensive experience with radioactive waste and mixed waste disposal services, including radionuclide identification of unknown materials

  • Linearity, constancy and accuracy checks for nuclear medicine dose calibrators

  • Quarterly and annual radiation safety program audits and training

  • Participation on Radiation Safety Committees

Environmental Health & Safety
  • Development of comprehensive safety programs by preparing regulatory plans, providing customized training, consulting on program management structure, and acting as a liaison with regulatory bodies

  • Auditing existing safety programs - generating audit reports documenting findings and corrective actions and presentation of results to management

  • Preparing and delivering customized training for scientific and non-scientific staff addressing radiation, chemical, and biological safety and hazard communication

  • Providing on-site consultation for radiation, chemical, and biological safety

  • Assistance in regulatory reporting to meet Federal, State, and local regulatory requirements

  • Dangerous Goods transportation, training and shipping assitance.

Radiological Decommissioning
  • Extensive experience in the application of the Multi-Agency Radiation Survey and Site Investigation Manual (MARSSIM) survey methodology 

  • Researching and writing historical site assessments, final status survey plans, and decommissioning documentation for radioactive materials licensing.

  • Development and execution of radioactive materials surveys

  • Evaluation of data collected using statistical techniques identified in MARSSIM to determine suitability of unrestricted use.
